Here's the link: BUBBY MAC'S KEWL STUFF
One of the bands that definitely made both lists is The Beatles. My daddy says he remembers buying a Beatles album when he was eight years old. It had the songs, Revolution, Hey Jude, Lady Madonna and Paperback Writer on it. He listened to it over and over again, singing along at the top of his voice, driving my Mee-maw and Paw-Paw crazy.
A few years later, he got a guitar for Christmas and began strumming away as he listened to the Fab Four and the Stones and The Monkees. It was the late Sixties and the news was filled with graphic pictures of the war in Viet Nam and the college students protesting, and my daddy just escaped from it all by listening to rock and roll - chasing the rabbit down the rabbit hole, he calls it.
These days, we are bombarded by the images of the earthquake destruction in Haiti and the landslides in California and the war in Afghanistan. My daddy watches the news and gets all depressed for an hour or so, then he turns on the stereo and blasts some songs out from the Pixies and the Strokes and Wilco and it helps him to forget the horrible things going on in the world for a few blissful minutes.
Thought for the day - what rabbit hole do you run down when you need to escape?
If you are desperate for some vehicle for escape, here are a few links to lighten up your day.
