Hey there everyone! How's it going? Sorry it's been so long since my last blog. I've been a busy little two-year old, coloring, and running in circles and driving my daddy crazy. I finally found another new band I'd like to share with you. Their name is Freelance Whales from NYC. Check out this kewl song entitled Kilojoules. It is live from a subway platform, so the sound is not perfect. You ought to check out the version on their new CD.
Freelance Whales
I've got another kewl new song to share with you today. It is from a band called Rogue Wave. They are from San Francisco and they have been around for a while making kewl music, but their new CD called Permalight is dynamite and this song called Good Morning (The Future). Check it out.
Rogue Wave
That's it for today folks. Happy Spring. And I'll try to do a special blog next weekend to celebrate the arrival of Eostre.

Kewl New BAnd blog #2
The name of the kewl new band for this week is Surfer Blood. My daddy says that the band name reminds him of some weird combination of Beach Boys and Charles Manson. I asked him if Charles was a relative of Marilyn Manson and he told me no. He said he didn't want to talk about Charles Manson, because he was one of the worst monsters of the twentieth century.
All of this is apropos of nothing, just me blabbing on about things my daddy and I talk about. I guess I might be too young to know about serial killers, but I suppose I would hear about the messed-up evil things humans do to each other sooner or later.
On a brighter note, Surfer Blood really is a kewl new band. They are from West Palm Beach and their music does sound like a mixture of surf rock and modern indie rock. My daddy and I are really digging this band. Here is a video of their song called "Swim".
"Swim" by Surfer Blood.
And since I began this blog on a downer note, talking about the evil side of human behavior, I want to give equal time to the better qualities of the human race. It is hard sometimes to see the good news that is happening out there, what with the media coverage acting like sharks swarming every time there is a major disaster or crime wave or celebrity scandal, but if you look hard enough you can see the good things that people are doing for each other. If you have any trouble finding such evidence, check out websites like:
Amnesty International
or
choice HUMANITARIAN
or
Volunteers of America
Since I have got this far into this manifesto, I am going to add a second band to the blog this week, another great new band called Alberta Cross. And no they are not from Canada but rather from London. And no they are not exactly new because their latest CD is their second. They have a great sound, sort of a cross between The Band and Kings of Leon. My daddy and I think this song called "ATX" really rocks. Check it out and let me know what you think.
"ATX" by Alberta Cross.
That's all for this week's kewl new band blog. I'll try to begin next week's blog on a lighter note.
So until then, this is Bubby Mac signing out and reminding you that spring is just around the corner. I can't wait for the first thunderstorm of the season.

Kewl New Band blog #1
Happy Sunday morning everyone. It's actually a little after noon here in Suffolk, Virginia, but I figured it's still morning in most of the country. Speaking of which, I'm glad everyone is okay in Hawaii. And let's say a quick prayer to mother nature, asking her not to shake the world so violently. First Haiti, and now Chile. Earthquakes are scary, scary stuff. My daddy says he grew up in tornado alley and is fascinated by violent weather, but he says earthquakes come without any warning, the earth opens up and swallows things. How scary is that?
So on the solemn note, I give you a long overdue music blog. My plan after posting all those lists on my web page - Bubby Mac's Kewl Beans - was to make weekly blogs about new music my daddy and I come across. So it's about time I get that started. While surfing about the web, I ran across a kewl band this morning who weren't on my list. The Soft Pack are from San Diego (speaking of surfing). This is great stuff. My daddy says it sounds like old 60's garage rock. I guess that's a kewl thing. We don't own a garage, so I don't really know what that's all about. But I do know that this song rocks. Kewl video too. Check it out:
The Soft Pack - Answer To Yourself
Keep on smiling and rocking.

let it snow!
Third Saturday in a row with snow today. Me and my sister went out and threw snowballs at each other this morning. My daddy says that this is a freak weather occurrence, whatever that means. He grew up in the midwest and lived for quite a few years in Chicago, so this is not anything new to him. But he's an old fart, so his bones don't cooperate as well on cold days such as this.
We had a weird snowstorm today. It started last night, and snowed all morning with a couple of inches accumulation. (My daddy is teaching me all these big words). But by this afternoon it had all melted. For a while there was sun-snow. My daddy says when the sun is out while its raining it means the devil is kicking his wife. Even Beelzebub isn't evil enough to hit his woman. But I know its just an old superstition. Wonder what it means when the snow shines during a snow storm. Hmm?
My daddy read in the paper today that 49 states had snow on the ground. The only exception was Hawaii. Cowabunga!!
Well it's been a while since I blogged. So I better come up with something good to talk about other than snow. Everybody has it, nobody wants to read about it. How about some great summer songs to get you thinking about warmer weather. What's everyone's favorite summer song. My daddy heard me talking about this and he's shouting at me a couple of great ones. I guess I'll add them to my list. So without further ado, here's my top ten summer songs (with links to youtube videos). (And don't forget to check out my website:

hank and my daddy
have you ever read my daddy's pmac58 blog on authornation? if you are one of his faithful readers, you know that his favorite poet is charles bukowski, and that my daddy is regularly haunted by the ghost of the poet, who goes by the name of hank.
why am i telling you this? because i'm announcing the newest list on my website, bubby mac's favorite poets. and can you guess who's at number one? you betcha, the old buk himself. the list can be found at my "other kewl stuff" link on my main page @: BUBBY MAC'S KEWL STUFF
when hank's ghost stops by for a visit with my daddy, he often stops and plays with me also, getting messy by playing in the sandbox or fingerpainting. he's an ornery old goat, but as far as poet's ghosts go, he's not that bad. when hank stops in my daddy is usually inspired to write a poem about the occasion. you can check out my daddy's "bukowski and i" poems at his poetry blog @: pmac58.
that's all for today, except for one piece of advice from hank himself:
if you're losing your soul and you know it, then you've still got a soul left to lose.
ciao y'all.

Down the Rabbit Hole
What's up people? I'm back. Did you miss me? I've been a busy little man. My daddy and I have been working on our website, adding our favorite movies and books, and our latest addition is our favorite 201 musical artists and top 100 albums. It was hard narrowing it down, because there are so many great musicians and songwriters that we admire.
Here's the link: BUBBY MAC'S KEWL STUFF
One of the bands that definitely made both lists is The Beatles. My daddy says he remembers buying a Beatles album when he was eight years old. It had the songs, Revolution, Hey Jude, Lady Madonna and Paperback Writer on it. He listened to it over and over again, singing along at the top of his voice, driving my Mee-maw and Paw-Paw crazy.
A few years later, he got a guitar for Christmas and began strumming away as he listened to the Fab Four and the Stones and The Monkees. It was the late Sixties and the news was filled with graphic pictures of the war in Viet Nam and the college students protesting, and my daddy just escaped from it all by listening to rock and roll - chasing the rabbit down the rabbit hole, he calls it.
These days, we are bombarded by the images of the earthquake destruction in Haiti and the landslides in California and the war in Afghanistan. My daddy watches the news and gets all depressed for an hour or so, then he turns on the stereo and blasts some songs out from the Pixies and the Strokes and Wilco and it helps him to forget the horrible things going on in the world for a few blissful minutes.
Thought for the day - what rabbit hole do you run down when you need to escape?
If you are desperate for some vehicle for escape, here are a few links to lighten up your day.

Cinema Fantastique
One of my birthday presents was the movie Up. My sister and daddy and I watched it today. Great animation. Great story. We all gave it a thumbs up. It was so good, it almost made our top 100 movie list which is the latest addition to BUBBY MAC'S KEWL STUFF.
There's some great films on there. One of my daddy's first jobs as a teenager was an usher at a movie theater. He says his job was to point the direction to the restrooms and make sure the kids weren't smoking in the balcony. One of his other jobs was to carry the reels up to the projection booth and to change the letters on the marquee whenever there was a new movie.
So check out our list. We included links to the trailers for each movie. There's some old stuff and new stuff. There's some sci-fi and some comedy. If you don't find your favorite movie in this list, let me hear about it. I'd love to get some feedback.
Be kewl!
